Blu's Program
Trauma Recovery for Dogs
Per Aspera Ad Astra
Through hardships to the stars!

A dog named Blu changed my life. This program represents how I would have helped him if I could go back in time.
It was designed for large and giant breed dogs living with trauma and behavior issues.
Phase
One
Behavior assessment informs the Foundation Protocol (FP), an ongoing anti-stress process that promotes bonding and trainability.

This phase is typically 2-3 weeks.
Phase
Two
While the FP continues, you and your dog learn moves and skills to change how they feel about the world and use as tools in the behavior work.
This phase is typically 3-4 weeks.
Phase
Three
While practice from Phase 1 and 2 goes on, you conduct training walks and other forms of gentle exposure therapy in the real world.

This phase is typically 4+ weeks.

Program Features
01
Functional Behavior Assessment
Rather than cookie-cutter “quick fixes”, you learn to observe your dog’s communication, assess the “why” behind what they do, and help them with solutions tailored to their unique needs.
02
Training in Your Home
Rather than bring your dog to a facility, learn there, and try to relate it to real life, I come right to you. We train three times per month, in-person, where the issues live: in your own home and neighborhood.
03
Real Support Between Sessions
Rather than high volumes for profit, membership is capped at 6. In addition to priority text and email support, I have the time to host TWO weekly Zoom calls and a private Facebook group just for members.
04
Experience and Science
Rather than follow outdated dogma, you learn about the nature of behavior and trauma in dogs. We apply methods informed by my early work with rescued street dogs and the science-based discipline of BAT.
FAQ
Why a Monthly Program? How Long Will This Take?
While I want you to be self-sufficient quickly, every dog-human team is different and trauma makes the rate of progress difficult to predict. A typical experience is working with me for 2-3 months. but every healing journey is unique.
Why a Virtual Component?
The group meets help us adjust faster, learn from each other’s journeys, and make our private lessons stronger. Much in a typical private session can be done virtually. These meetings allows much more discussion without taking time from practical work.
Do You Use Punishment or Harsh Tools?
No. I will never tell you to hurt or scare your dog. You cannot punish away trauma.
What Does Trauma-Informed Even Mean?
When I am addressing behavior issues that are trauma related, the methods I apply are themselves informed by the nature of stress and trauma in dogs. I can anticipate, understand, and respond to the special needs often present in dog survivors of trauma.
What are the Actual Training Protocols Involved?
This program borrows heavily from Dr. Karen Overall’s Protocol for Relaxation, Behavior Adjustment Training, and Predation Substitute Training to name a few.
My Veterinarian Says XYZ, What do You Think?
Trauma is a health issue and your primary care provider is your veterinarian. Please consider all your vet has to say.
